ESU locomotive servicing / maintenance cradle with magnetic parts recess
This premium quality locomotive servicing / maintenance cradle boasts a large size which will accept most OO / HO scale locomotives and their tenders – in the case of steam. The cradle has two apertures so that a locomotive can be positioned upside down for easy and comfortable maintenance tasks at one side, or inclined sideways at the other, making transfer application and other detailing or maintenance tasks to the side of the locomotive so much more easier to complete.
This impressive cradle is the ideal tool for the maintenance and care of your locomotives, and it can also be used on coaching stock and wagons too. It consists of a premium soft, fine-pored foam with a high restoring force. As a result, small body detail parts such as handle bars, aerials, roof vents, pantographs, and other intricate parts cannot get caught within the foam therefore reducing the possibility of damage to your valued model. The foam material is resistant to oil, grease and cleaning agents making this the ideal product for cleaning wheels and oiling any moving parts – without affecting the foam itself.
A thick, high density neoprene foam forms the base of this cradle, giving a firm, secure and level grip to most surfaces. Cut out sections on the base allow expansion with many of these cradles joined together, simply by removing the end dovetail shaped cut outs and replacing with the dovetail joiner provided in the centre. The adhesive backing provided on these parts can be used to make this a permanent arrangement to ensure the cradle is secure, or otherwise they can be left allowing you to make temporary changes as needed, storing these parts in their original location for future use. The ability to easily expand means that servicing and maintenance of diesel and electric multiple units is possible without having to separate the set into individual carriages.
For safe storage of small parts and screws, a magnetic storage recess is located between the two apertures, running over the entire length of the cradle. The magnet is quite strong, and from experience of using this ourselves in the workshop, we have captured the odd rogue screw that was stuck inside the chassis and subsequently dropped, landing right onto the magnetic strip. This has potentially saved us time having to otherwise hunt down a rogue screw.
And did you know that this cradle can also be used to support O scale models, to prevent delicate roof details becoming damaged by a hard surface? Yes it’s unconventional, but true! We have placed O scale locomotives over the inclined section to allow us to work on gearboxes without risking damage to fine roof details on diesel locos.
